Mission & Membership
With more than 1,000 members, our organization’s mission focuses on keeping Georgetown clean, safe, accessible and economically strong. From marketing, communications and special events, to transportation, economic development, placemaking and streetscape, the Georgetown BID contributes to the vitality and quality of life in Georgetown. Governed by a Board of Directors elected by our membership, we’re proud of our role in the ongoing evolution of Georgetown as a world-renowned shopping, dining and visitor destination.
Any commercial property owner or tenant within the BID boundaries is automatically a member. There is no additional membership fee as the BID is funded through a BID property tax. The membership, comprised of property owners and tenants ranging from retailers and restauranteurs to architecture, technology, and professional services firms, are able to benefit from and participate in all of the programs and services offered throughout the year.
BID Map + Boundaries
The BID’s boundaries cover approximately 35 blocks of the Georgetown commercial district, including all of the commercial properties on M Street between Canal Road on the west and Rock Creek Parkway on the east, and all properties south of M Street to the Potomac River.
It also includes all of the properties on Wisconsin Avenue, and the commercial properties on the blocks that intersect Wisconsin Avenue, south of R Street.
Board of Directors
The Georgetown BID Board is comprised of 27 voting and 6 non-voting members who set broad policies, goals and strategies for the organization. Board members represent a cross-section of Georgetown’s diverse commercial district, including commercial real estate, retail, restaurants, hospitality, professional services firms, and community organizations.

Clean Team
The BID’s Street Services program ensures the cleanliness of all public space within the BID’s boundaries and includes litter and trash removal, graffiti removal, sidewalk power washing, snow removal, weeding and minor tree pruning. Look for the BID’s “men and women in blue,” the 21-member Clean Team who work 363 days a year to keep Georgetown looking its best. This program also oversees rat abatement and control in the commercial district, through regular monitoring of specific areas throughout the BID along with the D.C. Department of Health and Department of Public Works.

Work at the BID
A career at the Georgetown BID means joining an organization known for its creativity, practicality, and service to the community. (We also have a lot of fun.) Our staff and Board of Directors work tirelessly every day to create a better Georgetown. We don’t have any open positions at the moment – which clearly means we all love our jobs!
RFP Opportunities
Georgetown Sidewalk Extensions Feasibility and ‘Pilot’ Design
The Georgetown Business Improvement District (GBID) in partnership with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is seeking multidisciplinary design and engineering services for the next phase of sidewalk extensions on M Street NW and Wisconsin Avenue. This is part of an effort to bring more diverse transportation and visitor uses to Georgetown’s streetscape and roadway including more space for walking, dining, bus boarding, bicycle and scooter parking and support for adjacent competing curbside uses.
