Washington, D.C.’s oldest neighborhood comes alive each December with warmth and Christmas cheer. Yuletide decorations fill the area known for its over 450 stores, restaurants, and galleries.

The public art can spur foot traffic, create community and support economic development during a time when urban spaces can otherwise be less lively, organizers say.

In “the region’s only free outdoor light art experience,” GLOW has returned to the commercial district for its 8th season.

As part of the neighborhood’s seasonal Georgetown Glow event, artists from around the world have been commissioned to create five light installations, including an interactive electronic display on which your silhouette appears, a functional swing set under a glowing blue “cloud” and a field of giant glowing butterflies.

For many DTC brands looking to get their footing in physical retail, the Georgetown neighborhood in D.C. is prime real estate.

This December, the front of the Four Seasons hotel will transform into a European-inspired Christmas market. The outdoor market will feature gifts and treats from local artisans and culinary vendors like Georgetown Paperie and Lifstyl Candle Co.
