Retail experts weigh in on 2021 and what to expect in 2022 – including a strong recovery for Georgetown.

Organic mattress maker Avocado Green Mattress opens its Georgetown showroom Friday, and it is not your typical retail mattress store. For starters, the showroom has “The Sleep Experience.” Avocado Green says it’s an immersive way to understand what a night’s sleep feels like on one of its mattresses, with five- to 15-minute sessions with sunset and nighttime sky displays and circadian lighting and binaural beats, which it says moves you into a state of deep relaxation.

A 12-year odyssey for acclaimed chef Ashleigh Pearson has, at last, landed her at a zenith moment in her culinary career. Pearson’s ‘Petite Soeur’, her first brick and mortar store, has just opened its doors along Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown.

A new hotel is in the works along the Georgetown waterfront. Almost 18 months since developer IDI Group received approval to redevelop the warehouse building that houses The Berliner beer hall to deliver 54 condos, a new team is now aiming to turn the property at 3401 Water Street NW into a citizenM hotel.

Exclusive to the Georgetown location, the Everlane store will have its “100% DC” shirts and tote bags, along with its men’s and women’s clothing, denim, footwear, and accessories, in the brand’s signature chic, minimalist aesthetic.

GLOSSLAB, a hygiene-first, membership-based, waterless nail studio operator, has signed a lease with EastBanc, Inc., marking the company’s first location in Washington, D.C. GLOSSLAB will officially open its doors at 1533 Wisconsin Avenue NW in early 2022, and will add to Georgetown’s growing list of retailers and experiences.

Bakeshop is moving into 3210 Grace Street NW in D.C., just about a mile walk from Gateway Park in Rosslyn and only two and a half miles from their original Clarendon shop.

The brand says it specializes in layering pieces and power gemstones, and will open in Georgetown in mid-October.
