Monotype and Mixed Media – 2 Day Workshop

11: A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Explore using various media (printmaking, collage, painting) to create your monotype artwork. In this workshop we will discuss the principles and elements of design, composition, and combining drawing, texture, and color to create a monotype of an image using line on plexiglass, collage, and painting. Students will learn to transfer an image to paper, add collage materials, and paint onto the image to create final one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork.

On the first day of class, students are expected to bring their sketchbook and multiple inspirational images (landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, photograph, etc.) to review for their mixed media piece. Artwork should be sized to 8×10 or 4×5 on paper; colored image preferred, but not critical. Students will be expected to work on their own during the workshop. By the end of this workshop, students will have basic knowledge on how to create a monotype and add mixed media and color to a print.
