Georgetown Debuts New Canal Boat
Georgetown Heritage and the National Park Service have welcomed a new canal boat back to Georgetown after nearly a decade. The boat is 80 feet long and 12 feet wide, and has two electric motors – or can be pulled by mules. It’s modeled after designs for historic packet boats that were used on the canal during its early years of service. The new design includes modern amenities and materials, including an onboard restroom, battery-powered electric motor, and a fiberglass hull to ensure visitor comfort and safety. Public boat rides are expected to begin in Spring 2022; in the meantime, stay tuned for more updates and programming announcements, and check out the new boat near Thomas Jefferson and 31st Street!
