Georgetown Ends Year with Strong Commercial Data
At the Georgetown BID we are grateful for a lot this Thanksgiving, including:
1) The 55 new businesses that have opened this year, and the over 35 businesses that have signed a lease in Georgetown and will be open by this time next year, driving retail vacancy rates back to pre-pandemic levels.
2) Longstanding legacy businesses like Café Milano (30 years), Filomena Ristorante (40 years), and Martin’s Tavern (90 years) that continue to expand and serve the Georgetown community.
3) Our dining scene that’s been honored with awards and notoriety this year including:
- Lutece – Service Program of the Year (RAMMYs)
- Lutece (Chef Isabel Coss) – Best New Chef – Food & Wine
- Teresa Velazquez – Pastry Chef or Baker of the Years (RAMMYs)
- Yellow – Added to the Michelin Guide
- Reverie – Michelin star
4) The pop-ups and performing arts that chose to make Georgetown home this year, from the Capital Fringe Festival to the Museum of Failure.
5) The 11.4 million visitors who came to Georgetown so far this year, making us the most visited outdoor shopping destination in the region.
6) The three new hotels that are investing in Georgetown and will deliver 430 hotel rooms for our steady influx of tourists.
7) The five residential projects that will develop 525+ units continuing to advance Georgetown as a live, work, play neighborhood.
8) The nearly 93,000 Capital Bikeshare riders who biked to Georgetown this year.
9) Safer streets due to the implementation of the streateries, sidewalk extensions and bus stops, which has resulted in 60% fewer crashes on M Street and Wisconsin Avenue as compared to 2019.
10) The 40+ restaurants that offer outdooring dining as a result of the streateries.
11) The 15,500+ C&O Canal Boat riders.
12) M Street being recognized as one of Elle’s 40 best main streets in the country.
13) Being named Best BID of 2024. (What’s the harm in manifesting?!)
