Stephen Starr Opening ‘Mega Italian Concept’

Stephen Starr announced that he’s opening his own Italian restaurant and market in the former Dean & DeLuca space at 3276 M St NW. Starr, of Le Diplomate and St. Anselm fame, said he’s negotiating to partner with California chef and baker Nancy Silverton for a casual “festival of food” with pastas and a custom-made hearth in the middle to bake bread and pizzas. The space was built by the city in the 1800s, and will continue the tradition of a marketplace. Starr plans to incorporate an Italian market at the front with baked goods, vegetables, breads, espresso, gelato, and more. A wine cellar bar may also be added in the basement.
