Vigil at Exorcist Steps for Director William Friedkin
A vigil is being held Friday, August 11 at 8 pm for Exorcist director William Friedkin, who died Monday. Andrew Huff and Aaron DeNu, the co-organizers of 2015’s Exorcist Steps commemoration, are hosting the event to honor the profound impact Friedkin had on the world of cinema and the enduring influence of The Exorcist – creating a site of “cinematic pilgrimage” right here in Georgetown.
As Washington Post writer Ann Hornaday said, “the Exorcist Steps are right up there with Bodega Bay from “The Birds,” the Dyersville, Iowa, baseball diamond from “Field of Dreams,” the Griffith Observatory from “Rebel Without a Cause” and at least two other sets of famous steps: at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (“Rocky”) and at 167th Street in the Bronx (“Joker”).”
The vigil will be held at the bottom of the steps (next to the old Exxon station on M St NW, near the Key Bridge).
