Weekend Art Events in Georgetown
Gallery Article 15 (1624 Wisconsin Ave NW) is partnering with Louis Sangare-King of Niani Designs on Thursday, May 4 from 5 pm – 7:30 pm, when you can view and purchase an exclusive collection of handmade jewelry based on traditional African adornments, talismans and original contemporary designs. Pieces feature handcrafted bracelets, necklaces/pendants, earrings and rings from artisan jewelers from Niger, Mali and Kenya. Louis will also be presenting his unique, museum-quality sterling silver masks, plus you can enjoy drinks and Congolese music.
In other art news, Jewelers’Werk Gallerie (3319 Cady’s Alley NW) is hosting a Meet the Artist reception on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 from 11 am – 5 pm for the new exhibition, Chain Reaction. Artist-jeweler Biba Schutz centers the concept and form of the chain to anchor this collection of necklaces, earrings, and brooches.
Cap off a weekend of creativity with a visit to The Fillmore School in Georgetown (1800 34th St NW) on Sunday, May 7 from 1 pm – 5 pm for an open studio session featuring DC award-winning artists Lory Ivey Alexander, Zsudayka Nzinga, Jessica Valoris, and Jordann Wine – plus dance rehearsals from Sarah Beth Oppenheim and Heart Stuck Bernie. The free event is hosted by resident-artists from The Fillmore School and S&R Evermay. Light refreshments will be provided, and art will be available for purchase. Free parking is available in the gated lot located directly off of 34th St NW, across from the Starbucks parking lot.
